Investigation of Dye Removal Capability of Blast Furnace Slag in Wastewater Treatment

نویسندگان

چکیده

Blast Furnace Slag (BFS) is a by-product of the iron ore processing industry with potential to be used in different industrial applications. In this research, BFS was examine its ability for dye removal from wastewater. The efficiency two types samples cationic methylene blue (MB) and acidic methyl orange (MO) dyes investigated results found that optimal conditions treatment wastewater were 80 g/L adsorbent dose 1 h time both dyes. more effective MO than MB dye. Under shorter residence times, showed reverse trends removing higher concentrations MO. chemistry had additional impacts on removal. Higher basicity lower adsorption when applied at smaller concentrations, while concentrations. has role pre-treatment contaminated may contribute reduced use expensive adsorbents, such as activated carbons.

The Use of Blast Furnace Slag for Removal of Phosphorus from Wastewater in Sweden—A Review

Research on Phosphorus (P) removal capacity by blast furnace slags (BFS) has been undertaken in Sweden for the last decade. Both laboratory experiments and field trials have been carried out. While laboratory investigations revealed that BFS has a high P-sorption capacity (95–100%), P removal in field trials was much lower, ranging from 40 to 53%. In addition, a number of problems have been obs...

Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag

1. Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) is a by product of the steel industry. Blast furnace slag is defined as “the non-metallic product consisting essentially of calcium silicates and other bases that is developed in a molten condition simultaneously with iron in a blast furnace.” [1] In the production of iron, blast furnaces are loaded with iron o...

Preparation of Sorbent with a High Active Sorption Surface Based on Blast Furnace Slag for Phosphate Removal from Wastewater

A new method has been presented, which leads to a significant improvement of the adsorption ability of blast furnace slag (BFS). An ultra-high pressure water jet mill cavitation disintegrator and a controlled vacuum freeze dryer were used to disintegrate amorphous BFS. Specific surface areas of both BFS and disintegrated slag (BFS-D) were measured using the S method. BFS-D was obtained with an ...

The Study of Ion Adsorption by Amorphous Blast Furnace Slag

In this study, the blast furnace slag was used as absorbing bed and then, its ionic adsorption was studied. For this reason, various experimental parameters such as pH, contact time and the primary ion concentration were investigated. The remaining concentrations of ions such as; Mn2+ and Fe2+ in water were measured by atomic adsorption spectroscopy. The chemical and p...

Basic Oxygen Furnace steel slag and apatite for sustainable phosphorus removal at small wastewater treatment plants

Recent developments in phosphorus (P) removal have focused on P reactive materials to use within constructed wetlands (CW), as a sustainable alternative to chemical dosing. In this study, different fractions of Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF) steel slag and apatite media have been tested in full-scale CWs, being the first trial of its kind in the United Kingdom evaluating the P removal capacity of b...
